Question of the day

Where is your name from?

My parents were both teachers and so when it came naming me it was a challenge. My mom would bring up a name and my dad would say something like, "No, I had a girl with that name and she was annoying." Or my mom would do the same thing, "No, I had a girl with that name and she ..." So in the hospital, after my birth they still didn't have one narrowed down. The nurse said I couldn't go home without a name. So they compromised on 2 different ones My first name has German roots, along with out heritage and then Elizabeth is a family name and my mom likes multiple syllable names. My name has almost almost been unique around my circle of family and friends, and gets spelt wrong a lot. I have not taken a nickname, because I think if I was supposed to be named a nickname that would have been my name. It is a personal peeve. If you are James, why go by Jim and not have your real name be Jim. If you are Dan and only use your name Daniel on your ids and personal forms, what is the point. I had a cousin named Patrick and his mom thought the same thing, neither of her sons have nicknames.

  1. I agree with you. I don't mind nicknames (I was once called "Rocket" which was a sports nickname) but I don't like the type that change the actual name. If parents name their child Dylan I don't think they want their kid known as Dill. (Pickle?)
